Zakladatelé a historie Jednoty umělců výtvarných

Founders and history of Union of Creative Artists

Brzy začali přecházet výtvarníci i z jiných výtvarných spolků.

Po dvou letech patřili k činným členům kromě zakládajících L. Marold, O. Lebeda, V. Jansa, O. a J. Bubeníčkové, E. Dítě, F. Herčík, arch. K. Hilbert, L. Kuba, A. Mucha, H. Schwaiger, A. Vlček, Č. Vosmík, J. Schikaneder, H. Emingerová později pak S. Lolek, F. Kaván, A. Kalvoda, R. Havelka a J. Panuška.

Vše nově vznikající většinou vykazuje i velkou životaschopnost a aktivitu.

Jednota umělců výtvarných během svého stoletého trvání procházela různými obdobími a lze říci, že přežila všechny změny, ke kterým v tomto bouřlivém století v naší zemi docházelo.

Every corporation is formed by living individuals, therefore the history of the corporation is consenquently a particular history of its most important personalities. In the case of the Union of Creative Artists, it is the history of past hundred years.

The members of the Union of Creative Artists were outstanding artists of several generations. The Union of Creative Artists was formed more than one hundered years ago, when significant individualities of creative art generation from National Threatre left the art corporation „Umělecká Beseda“.

The new art club arose from the opposition to down-to-date situation under the „Umělecká Beseda“. It was deceded to establish a new corporation to associate the creative artists linked with Czech tradition, which were at the time irresponsible derogated by some art critics. It was J. V. Myslbek, who suggested the name of the corporation evidently due to unmistakableunderstanding from the name, that a creation of its members would follow the ideological connestions with nationalistic corporation „Jednota umělců výtvarných“ … It was formed by ideas of the year 1848 and by initiative of patriots, where was for example very active Josef Mánes (he designed membership cards and premiums). The first plenary assambly took place on March 28, 1898 and according to the attendance list thirty artists took part on it.

A constitutive meeting was held on April 6, 1898 and J. V. Myslbek was elected as a first mayor. Professor F. Ženíšek became his vicemayor and E. K. Liška was a secretary. From the founders of the Union of Creative Artists I would like to mention at least tho most omportant representatives. Above all who belonged to them were: V. Brožík, V. Hynais, F. Ženíšek, M. Aleš, J. V. Myslbek, E. K. Liška and J. Bubeníček.

The Union strengthened its position very quckly after its foundation, morover creative artists from other corporations started to enter the Union soon.

After two years to active members belonged, including foundators L. Marold, O. Lebeda, V. Jansa, O. and J. Bubeníčkové, E. Dítě, F. Herčík, arch. K. Hilbert, L. Kuba, A. Mucha, H. Schwaiger, A. Vlček, Č. Vosmík, J. Schikaneder, H. Emingerová později pak S. Lolek, F. Kaván, A. Kalvoda, R. Havelka a J. Panuška.

All what is newly formed generally showes the high vitality and activity. It fully counted about the new Union, which arranged series of very successful exhibitions and issued its own journal „Dílo“ from the year 1903.
